Adventure Session Films - Montreal Wedding Videographer

Something new I’m very excited about this season is the introduction of my Adventure Session Films, which are short films I’ve been shooting with couples during their adventure sessions with me in addition to their still images. What are these? Adventure session films came about from talking with couples before they had booked me and very often I would speak with brides and hear them say they loved this cinema-like feel from my images. They loved how natural and beautiful my images looked, and it reminded them of movies they were drawn to. I loved hearing comments like that and it was honestly one of the many reasons they booked me.

So, fast forward to now, and after setting up my last session this way and getting such amazing feedback from my couple, I’ve decided to really do this. For real. During their adventure session I take both still photographs, and video. The camera rig I built is very lightweight, so I can easily switch between the two. I’ve opened up pre-booking for couples who had already booked me and want to add this to their session, or for couples who aren’t getting married, but want to make it happen and work with me to create one for them.

The most meaningful photography reminds you of something you’ve seen or experienced before, so it has a deep and strong emotional attachment and it takes you outside of the frame in some way. I feel like these films help me get closer to that feeling, when something feels very familiar, but looks totally different and new. I mean, photography is illustrative; you’re a witness when you photograph, and you watch from either close up or from a distance. With video, I feel I’m much more involved in the scene and frame, and less so depending on my imagination and timing. I’m a storyteller and my experiences as a human, father (divorced), gives me lots of material to work from.

Just a straight up inspiration moment here: mainly my eye draws a lot of from the work of Terrence Malik and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. It’s a perfect marriage. All of the work they’ve made together is beautiful, breath-taking, and raw. These two clips will give you a little insight to their work as filmmakers.

The best part about shooting sessions in this combination of video and still photography is that I’m capturing gorgeous quality video and can later export frames from these clips and export them as static images. This gives my couples so much more variety in the collection I present to them. It’s a total win-win. Checkout a handful of stills from my video below. Read more about these sessions here.

I loved filming this session, and can’t wait for the next one. For couples looking for a super dreamy, intimate film that celebrates the best of you, everything human, and one that really tells your story, get in touch with me to book me for your adventure, or visit visit my webshop here and book it!

Dear Micheal, we just took a moment to sit down and open the session collection you’ve offered us. And we are completely, entirely - mind-blown. The amount of variety, artsy-ness, and incredible execution is beyond anything we could imagine.

Both the photos and the video are just SO unique and fantastic, that we are now actually sad to have hired someone else to shoot our wedding in Germany (even though we had to do it 2 years ago!). Honestly, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for having shared your undeniable, incredible talent with us. We feel so blessed and beyond happy to have these gorgeous, eternalized memories in our home now.

Thank you thank you thank you, and we are looking forward to work & have fun with you again in the future !!
