Shobac Cottages Wedding | Abigail & Pete

A few frames from a Nova Scotia SHOBAC COTTAGES WEDDING in Kingsburg, NS, with Abigail & Pete, from Brooklyn, NYC. Weddings along the ocean or near Atlantic Canada are always amazing. Shobac cottages first looked to me like some lost village along the south shore of Nova Scotia, and I loved how wild the drive was to get there. The image top right is a restored historic Chebogue schoolhouse on land overlooking the Nova Scotia ocean coast, restored and designed by Canadian architect Brian MacKay-Lyons - who's projects at Shobac earned prestigious recognition within his community, and this site is a must see within the Lunenberg county. Being invited and flown in to document the wedding ceremony, celebration, families, and closest friends of people like Abigail and Pete is why I love my job as a photographer. Being surrounded by the windswept hills, foggy terrain, and misty, rough coastline of this place is much more than inspirational, and definitely made for one of the most unique wedding venues I’ve had the pleasure to work with. My best work comes from these opportunities, and I feel a huge sense of gratitude and thankfulness for being chosen by my clients to play a part in this moment. No pressure there :)

You can’t deny that dramatic view :)

Sitting alongside the Atlantic ocean, Shobac Cottages was redesigned by architect Brian Mackay Lyons, is a UNESCO Heritage site just a 20 minute drive outside of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. This wedding on the grounds of the Shobac Cottages was total magic, surrounded by fog, wind, and an undulating pastures home to cattle and horses. Many times a fishery, the near by waves crash dramatically against the nearby Gaff Point cliffs. Even though it is newly renovated, the cottages are fully equipped for a good number of guests. This place at the edge of the world is a romantic place to say the least. Peggy's cove is nearby, as is blue rocks, these are landmarks in the area and always create a dramatic view.

Pete proposed to Abigail on this land

It was only fitting that they were then married here at Shobac, surrounded by their friends and family. There is so much more history and infomation to be read by architects now operating the site, which can be read by clicking this link. This Shobac Cottages Wedding is one of my top outdoor wedding locations amongst several excellent others you can read about here. The guests enjoyed an afternoon ceremony set outdoors, within a grassy area surrounded by old fishing relics of days long past. The once fishing village and farm have been replaced with small houses and cottages in a very Nova Scotia style. From within the unique and historic octagonal barn, the guests ate, laughed, and danced while keeping cool thanks to the windy breeze off the ocean travelling through those massive barn doors.

PS. I am really thrilled this Shobac Wedding celebration was been picked up and featured over at Once Wed. Once Wed is a brilliantly curated wedding inspiration blog, and I am just honoured to see this shared by my friends over there. Cheers to Abigail and Pete, love those two.
